One of the oldest privately owned artist’s shops in Europe – established 1927. Green and Stone is not beholden to any of the large manufacturers of artist’s materials but prefer to concentrate on the highest quality available. Price is not an issue, but value is. This does not mean that everything is expensive! Far from it, there are some wonderful oil paints for instance, hand made by Michael Harding, which are cheaper than the mass production paints of Winsor and Newton.

Look out for stunning original leather and canvas bags for artists and travellers alike. When you visit the shop, which is on two floors, you will find it is divided up into separate categories. There is an area for craft, modelling and children’s paints, a different section for the picture framing and restoration, another for writing and pens, as well as gifts and antiques!

Green and Stone sell a wide range of antique artist and writing materials along with some wonderful modern art gifts. Some of our original antique watercolour boxes date back to 1790.

In the framing section, every frame is made individually by hand, including the hand decorated mounts. Photograph frames in silver, walnut and elm can be purchased from stock. Green and Stone has been described, many a time, as the ‘Most interesting and friendly shop in London’!

I was up in London visiting my boyfriend at the weekend and managed to find myself in Green & Stone's shop on the Kings Rd. in Chelsea. I found it to be magical, the staff are very helpful with a huge amount of knowledge, i'm very much into my art and crafts and they provided plenty of tips! The assortment of stock items is colossal and if they don't have something in they'll order it in for you no problem. I also noticed while I was there there was a lady having her pictures framed and the result looked great I will certainly be returning here every time i'm in London!

The King's Road wouldn't be the same without Green and Stone. I go to browse and dream about all the paint i would buy if i were an artist, its a very calming place to hang out and very inspiring.
