Melrose and Morgan is a plush and exciting grocer full of all sorts of deli delights and fare. As well as a great array of products such as wines, dairy produce, and ready-made dishes to take away you’ll find cereals, teas, tarts, pastries, breads, desserts and vegetables.

With a ceiling to floor glass exterior there is tonnes of natural light displaying the shop and all its produce to its best advantage. Look out for Neal’s Yard cheeses, Luskins’ organic drinks, and Secrets, who produce wonderful vegetables and also supply Harvey Nichols and Selfridges.

And rest assured you will not find a better sausage roll, made on the premises from a well-researched recipe – pair with a fragrant jasmine tea and your day’s purpose will be met. The multi-coloured Primrose Hill Cupcakes have sent many a child into throes of gluttonous glee. And for something quite exclusive, get down there before the 179 jars made from the Regent Park’s honeybee hives are gobbled up – great for hay fever sufferers.

Melrose & Morgan is more than just a corner shop; it is a fabulous deli and shop crammed full of treats as well as everyday necessities of the highest quality, even if they are rather on the expensive side. It is also a great place to eat lunch, either the takeaway lunch box option, or eating in at a high stool next to the glass windows, watching the world of Primrose Hill unfold. The sausage rolls (made to their own secret recipe) are beautiful and go well with their salads; all the food available for lunch is handmade on the premises and ranges from a ham and cheese sandwich to (on the day I ate there) beef stew and mashed potatoes, via salads and quiche. They also serve homemade soup and tea and coffee. The puddings, cakes and pastries are delicious and are well worth a visit. I enjoy their bread at the weekend and also the old fashioned style sweets and preserves. Other things to look out for include their fantastic range of hampers and, at the moment, Christmas in a Box.
