FREE AGENTS literary agency was established in 2003 by experienced book publisher Jacqueline Burns – to work with published authors and new talent. In 2006 another dimension was added when she and film and tv agent, Kirsty Mclachlan, launched FREE THINKING CONSULTANCY, which helps clients access untapped ideas, generate new ones or get their creative ‘products’ ready for market.

The aim is to help clients (individuals or businesses) use the growing number of multimedia platforms and reach wider audiences in the process. A client may want to write a book, explore television opportunities, or produce an audio CD: Free Agents can ensure the different chosen mediums are brought together in a cohesive package.

Clients' may need just a single session, to be coached through the early stages of the process, or need someone to write a book, television format or treatment with them (or for them!). The possibilities are endless. Whatever their needs, each creative package is individually tailored.

Jacqueline has amazing creativity for her clients, whether they be would-be authors or budding TV stars. I recommend a lot of my clients to talk to her about getting new books published and unique TV ideas created. You do feel that you are in experienced hands and if Jacqueline feels she is the right person for your project, then you'll be in fab hands!

I should honestly say that if you want literary help of any kind, on getting your ideas into shape etc, these women are the bees' knees and the polar bear's jimjams.

I've been a professional writer for 28 years, published around 6 books, loads of journalism and a TV series, and I have met some stupid and scary people who pretend to know about how to write and what sells.

Drunks. Liars. Glowering big shots, for whom nothing you do is ever good enough for their great genius to sell to a publisher.

However, one day, my Guardian Angel swooped down shouting, 'Stuff this lot for a game of soldiers.' and carried me away from these deadbeats and up to Cloud Nine. This was when I met Jacq Burns, about a year ago, and soon afterwards, Kirsty McLachlin. I actually turned down one of the most powerful literary agents in the world, because I liked Jacq and the way she did things. This is so true, that he forgot I was no longer his client and greeted me effusively at a party...

Kirsty and Jacq are helpful and pro-active, keeping me at it but never bullying. Practical, sensible advisors, always with an eye to saleability, they know the market, and are patient, good-natured, approachable and kind to a budding writer. And they have loads of good contacts.

Any negatives? Well...NEVER ask Jacq Burns to drive and navigate by herself to somewhere a bit out of the way, if you have time constraints. She will be a delightful companion. She will just get a bit stressy about where she's going. You're best off meeting somewhere like a really good cafe or restaurant, as she is a City kind of babe and keen on yer actual good food.

No money or emoluments of any kind have changed hands to get me to write the above. However, Jacq and Kirsty, if you twisted my arm, I'm not too proud to accept payment. You think I'm joking, don't you?

If you're not sure about these two, email me with your specific queries.
