“I love Primrose Hill. It's stolen my heart! I live in a basement flat right across from the Hill. It’s so easy to get to the city, you can walk right through Regent’s Park to Soho. Regent’s Park Road is fantastic for restaurants and there are some really cute little coffee shops. My favourite is Cachao – it has a little candy shop, trinkets and toys as well as salads, bagels and crepes.
We eat at Lemonia, a Greek restaurant, at least once a week. When it’s packed there’s the sister restaurant just across the street, with pretty much the same food. It’s fresh and yummy and the waiters are so nice – I think they know my name! It’s healthy and it’s good – if you want you can have just hummus and tzaziki.
There’s a great deli called Shepherd’s Foods. They have everything, really nice meats and cheeses and even an American section with macaroni. I think half of my paycheck goes there. Also on Regent’s Park Road is a Russian tearoom, called Trojka. It’s a bit more wintry, more beefy but it’s cheap and really good – on the weekend you can get a fry-up for £4.
The Engineer is our favourite pub, it’s on Gloucester Avenue. It’s a gastro-pub – with lots of accreditations in the window! There’s a wonderful garden in the back and the food is just yum. There’s another pub called The Lansdowne on the same road, which is turning into a big meat market. If I were single I’d go there!
A lot of young professionals come to hang out in Primrose Hill, there are loads of families, pregnant women and babies everywhere you go. You do have the famous thing, our next-door neighbour is Jamie Oliver and on the other side we have Gwen Stefani. Sadie Frost lives up the street. David Walliams lives nearby too, though I think he’s moving, that’s the rumour!
A cool clothes boutique is Press, just around the corner from Lemonia. They have all the latest jeans, as well as local designers, and the Belstaff boots that were in The Aviator, with all the buckles! For vintage and second hand you’re best to walk down to Camden, it’s less than 15 minutes walk. There is a vintage store called Shikasuki just opened across from The Engineer on Gloucester Avenue. It’s more upmarket vintage – I bought an old coat there and it cost £70, not cheap but it’s really cool.
There’s a lot of community stuff – Saturday picnics in the park, poetry readings at the library, and on Bank Holidays they roast a whole pig at Shepherd’s Foods. You get to know your neighbours and people are pretty friendly. I like hanging out with friends, going to the pub and jogging in Regent’s Park. Because of my job I spend loads of time reading scripts. I spend a lot of it on the Hill and in the coffee shops I’ve come to know so well. When I was little I wanted to be famous, a famous ballerina!”
