Cosy décor and hearty meals are always the perfect antidote to living it up the night before. Do both at the new-opened Lodge Tavern in Ealing Broadway
If Ealing Broadway’s your patch, then look out there’s a new gastropub/DJ bar in town! Opened by Rob English of The Winchester on Essex Road and Clerkenwell House in Farringdon, The Lodge Tavern has a strong emphasis on good, wholesome food.
“We’ve got a daily changing chalk-board menu,” says Rob. “And it’s two-for-one at lunchtime, including the roasts on Sunday. We do this thing called Pimp Your Burger, where you get a basic burger and can add all sorts of toppings. And we do lots of sharing platters – there’s a Countryside platter with lots of patés and crusty bread. It’s based on traditional pub fare, but much nicer!”
And when it’s time to start softening things around the edges, there’s always the cocktail list. “We love cocktails!" says Rob. "Two-for-one on a Thursday night. There’s a lot of classics on the menu but the bartenders will create a cocktail of the week. I’m a classics man myself, I love Amaretto sour.”
Music in the form of DJs on the weekend will stir up a bit of a party. Expect to see Winchester residents phatplastic playing a mix of danceable hip hop and funk on April 28. “Music? I like everything," Rob laughs. "Anything from country and western to hip-hop! Weeknights at The Lodge will be quite chilled with a whole range of music. Ealing, like Islington, has a lot professional people who know and like their music.”
And like a growing number of gastropubs there’s also free WiFi – always a winner! So if you’re in the area, feeling a bit peckish or want somewhere to meet up with friends then you know where to go.
