What better way than to get into the festive spirit and start getting your present list sorted than spending a crisp afternoon out hitting London’s Christmas fairs?

So winter is well and truly upon us. No more getting by without tights, the thermals are on stand-by and so is your wallet. Yes, the joys of the pre-Christmas season not only include being able to do woolly and get away with the occasional unwaxed limb but also guilt-free opportunities to shop for others – the best kind of spending!

London is packed with a myriad of altruistic spending possibilities this year. If you are a supporter of cancer charities there are two popular events coming up, sufficiently far apart so you can visit both: Macmillan Cancer are holding a Christmas Fair full of jule-tide goodies and a special Gala Evening, with Princess Alexandra to launch the event in style; and the Wandsworth Friends of Cancer Research Christmas Fair teeming with exciting stalls and fare.

Supporters of Trinity Hospice will be pleased to see the Bigwigs girls plan a two-day Christmas Shopping Extravaganza, all proceeds to go to the hospice. And for the 25th year running the Junior League of London is presenting another elegant array of shopping opportunities with its acclaimed Boutique de Noel. If you are based eastwards, or fancy a trip to the City of London, other fairs worth visiting are the Frost Fair at Shakespeare’s Globe and the annual Finnish Christmas Fair at the Finnish Church. And if you're itching to get out there quick smart, the Spirit of Christmas Shopping Fair is on until 5 November. So pull on your matching hat and gloves and step out in Christmas style!
