Although black is reportedly back, grey has also muscled in and is this season's new black. Stylist Georgia Chapman makes it easy
You'll be forgiven for thinking of school uniforms when you think of grey, but really, truly, grey is this season's must-have colour. Just take a look at the high street, which is packed with every shade of grey from light marl to dark slate and charcoal.
And just to confirm matters, Jane Shepherdson, brand director at Topshop (before her recent departure), is reported as saying: "Grey is currently our fastest growing colour, with silver being the strongest, and charcoal very slightly slower."
You may feel daunted by wearing grey but actually it's probably one of the easiest trends to wear this season. To make things easy, it works really well teamed with just one other colour. Baby pink or blue are classic parings but for a more modern look, jewel colours look fantastic too – imagine charcoal with a vibrant scarlet or emerald.
Try to find a well-fitting grey charcoal trouser suit – think city boy suits and add a feminine floaty blouse in light grey – M&S have some great trouser suits and Zara have a gorgeous ruffle grey leopard print blouse. Team with black patent stacked heels. Fabulous! Also see if you can find a three piece trouser suit and add a black skinny rib polo neck – very Ralph Lauren.
Where to buy:
George at Asda have a beautiful cropped jacket with puff ball hem, 3/4 length sleeves and bow detail at waist – grey cotton mix. £24.
Wallis have a gorgeous grey jersey boat neck dress from W Limited Edition. £60.
Karen Millen have a large selection of grey pieces – great fitting pin stripe trousers for £110.
French Connection are stocking very cute bow skirts, which you can team with crisp white shirts and killer heels.
And you'll find some excellent grey pieces at Oasis and Warehouse this season. Good quality, great shapes and great prices.
