Summer is Here (well, on the way), and a few rays of bright light offer the perfect excuse to whip out those ‘Don’t mess, I’m actually really rich and famous’ shades. We take a look at this season's trends and introduce you to our favourites.
Feline
We've seen them on the catwalk so they're definitley hot but we’re not sure about Feline shades for ourselves. However judgement remains reserved, as there’s always someone who can carry off a trend with aplomb! The popularity of cats’ eyes glasses (sometimes referred to as 'butterflies') with their wing-like frames started of in the sixties. Ladies, if you're looking for a pair of sunglasses that will transform you into a far more feminine and gorgeous version of Dame Edna, check out Von Dutch’s Groupie and Diva…
Aviators
Yes, they’re tainted with vaguely disturbing visions of a young Tom Cruise astride his Harley, but there’s no escaping it, Aviators are back. The unique drooping, tear-drop frame design has become an iconic fixture of pop culture and fashion and can once again be seen gracing the nose bridges of icons and movies stars the world over. If you can get over the ‘eighties-ness’ of them – you’ll be sure to get mistaken for a seriously en-trend movie star. Check out the original Ray Bans, General from Von Dutch (or pick up a vintage pair on ebay!)
Large Wraps
Sported by Victoria Beckham, these are of course, a very practical descendent of the ski and sports goggle. Not only do they prevent sun and snow glare, they also serve as a defense against the paparazzi. Big and black and bolshy, these imitation shades from ASOS are full of attitude.
Bejewelled
Compliment your jewellery collection with sunglasses adorned in bling! They vary from simply twinkly to in your face, dripping-with-diamonds. First spotted as an ultra feminine trend in the 1950's, now they are a simply must have accessory for; driving with the roof down, getting spotted at the races or just taking the kids to school. They add a bit of sparkle to any sunny day. Check out Lara Bohinc Lula Sunglasses and our favourites from Chanel.
