A bit of light relief, catch up on the latest hair-dos, colour, styles and gossip with expert hair stylist Aimee Robinson

The bob
The bob or the ‘pob’, as it’s been renamed since Posh Spice stepped out with a new slightly re-worked version of the do, is the hottest hair cut of the moment, everybody’s asking for it! Shortest at the back the bob graduates in length down to the front. But if you’re thinking ‘It doesn’t look so hot on Spice, why should I go for it?’, remember that to carry off a really short bob you need to have sharp, almost elfin features and good bone structure. If you do have good bone structure it will really lift your face. If you’ve got a round face, don’t go for it.

If you’re worried about going so short, fear not, the bob works brilliantly in longer lengths. You can go for anything from cheek level all the way done to the collar-bone (though no longer than the collar-bone as the back will be too short compared to the front). And you can also have a fringe with this – a classic fringe on a classic bob is a really strong look. But short and side fringes work well too. Or cou could go a bit wacky. I did a bob the other day where we left one of the side sections out, so one of the sides was a bit longer – it looked fantastic.

The Brigitte Bardot fringe
I’m doing a lot of Brigitte Bardot fringes at the moment. These are nice big fringes which work well on long hair (though not on the bob!).

Colour
Colourwise people are going darker for the winter, and mainly all-over colour as opposed to highlights. All-over colour looks a lot more natural. The Lindsay Lohan reddy chestnut is really popular.

Natural hair
Hair is really natural at the moment. At Fashion Week, I did a lot of straightening and a lot of curls, but really loosely tonged curls. The 60s and 70s is really in at the moment which is where the bob look is coming from.

Party-dos
Tonging curls– section your hair off and loosely wrap the sectioned hair around each tong, leaving the ends loose. As you let the hair drop from the tong, pull it so the hair sets a little looser. Set it with Elnet Hairspray – it’s the best! Why? Because you can always brush it out.

Classic French rolls are lovely, but sometimes it fun to do something a bit different. This is really old fashioned but gorgeous: put you hair in a pony-tail, split it in two, and then roll each side in opposite directions and pin it. Then if you’ve left a little bit in the middle you can wrap it round one of the hair bands. It’s great to go for something classic, which shows your face off.

Posh Spice
Oh, and Posh Spice’s colour is all done through extensions – the side and top of her new bob are all extensions!
